American Home Furniture

Each country has it's own particular style of home furniture, which draws on the various cultures existing in that country. The U.S.A. doesn't have a long history, and so really old antiques are difficult to find - antique furniture is often brought over from Europe.

However, America folk-lore is rich in the spirit of the pioneer, and many furniture styles reflect this culture. In those early pioneering days, comforts were few and far between. People were a tough breed and slowly carved out a life in the beautiful wilderness. Once the home was constructed, the house started to accumulate the comforts desired by hard working settlers.

The American Home Furniture heritage includes the wonderful old furniture styles from diverse parts of the country, which represents a huge selection for the discerning buyer.

The first concept for American Home Furniture builders was strength and durability. A great variety of beautiful woods were abundant throught the States, and crafstmen soon started to exploit the natural strength and beauty of the oak, elm and walnut. Soft furnishings were much ruder than in the present day, and of course, every thing was hand crafted. Even today, when we have amazing machines to fabricate a huge range of man-made artifacts, furniture labelled 'hand made' is prized and carries a high price tag. As in those early days, American Home Furniture says 'I am solid, I have earned my place and I'm here to stay' - just like the early Americans, in fact.

Traditional woods used include traditional Oak, Walnut, Hickory and Cedar, and these are still firm favorites for the modern consumer. Oak has a particular place in the American home, and is used for a vast array of items - beds, sofas, screens, kitchen cabinets, tables, chairs and wardrobes. Of course, modern living has continuously called for pieces of furniture with a specific use, the first ones being the phonograph and then the radio. Both of these early modes of mass communication required a box to hold the contents, and why not turn them into a beautiful piece of furniture while we are about it?

In later years, mankind has produced furniture to house television sets, DVD players, computers and ovens. It's a sign of man's ingenuity that American Home Furniture represents a unique combination of form and function. The furniture needs to do it's job, but is also an integral part of our lifestyle, so should be nice to look at and comfortable to use.
